Lack of insurance or adequate insurance means cost often prevent medical visits, prescriptions, or preventive care.
Family poverty rate for NHPI in the US is higher than the US median, and 15% of Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander adults reported not getting needed medical care due to cost — higher than any other racial/ethnic group. 10.9% of NHPI lack any coverage vs 8.2% of U.S. overall.
19% did not take needed prescriptions as prescribed due to cost.
About 20% of NHPI adults experienced financial barriers to care (e.g., couldn’t afford care or insurance).
Roughly 1 in 5 reported skipping routine check-ups due to cost concerns.
In a national survey, >30% of NHPI adults reported at least one barrier to accessing care (financial or non-financial). Those with financial barriers were much more likely to report fair/poor health.
Only 23% of NHPI respondents rated their health as excellent or very good in a recent statewide survey, which in comparison was far lower than other groups.
Be Part of the Solution
According to US AND global indigenous data, suicide is one of the leading causes of death for NHPI.
Our vision is to provide future access to resources such as scholarships and sliding scales, campaigns, and educational programs in efforts to address Pacifika disparities and community barriers and decrease the alarming rates in rising statistics globally.
Collaborations assist us in these efforts, bringing communal care to families and individuals in ways that highlight shared cultural pillars of true love, respect, and honor.
This work exists because community shows up for community. Care doesn’t always look like one appointment or one bill paid. Sometimes it looks like education, connection, and reducing the friction families face just to get started.
United Minds is being built as a shared space — where families, providers, and community members can find one another, learn, and stay connected.
We honor non exploitation of culture, our people, and the disparities they are facing. As a for-profit entity, we do not ask for donations or charge the community for our referral services and visibility pipeline.
Help sustain the Hub, support education, and keep this work moving while longer-term access pathways are being built!
